Influenced by the works of Kandinsky, Cezanne, Gaugin, Matisse, Helen Franenthaler and Milton Avery, Claire McAuliffe creates glowing landscapes in brilliant colors
Her works are intensely personal and metaphorical, and evoke many different moods of the land and sky. She derives her imagery from an interplay of experience and imagination.
Claire works with untreated canvas, first using an understain, then thickly applying bright, primary colors to create the images.
Exhibitions: Zola Gallery, West Hollywood; Newport Harbor Art Museum, Newport Beach
Comments from Jim Hull:
I have always ‘felt’ Claire’s paintings as much as I have seen them. They have an evocative way of coming out of the canvas and grabbing ones attention. It may be her use of color or composition or both. Then the story line takes form. To me it is always a story line with hope and happiness that celebrates life and points to the good in all of us. I hope that you enjoy her paintings and I am proud to have her as a guest artist on my site.
